Tenerife

We sighted Santa Cruz which is in about the center of the Spanish Canary Island a little before noon on the 14th of April.  We had sailed over 5 days without seeing land or being on land.  Most of us want off the ship for at least a couple of minutes.  We were only going to be in Santa Cruz, Tenerife for about 4 hours, just enough time to do a little shopping and stretch your land legs.  We got off to talk a little walk.  Before you knew it, we were several blocks from the ship at El Corte Ingles.  This is a business like Sears in the US, they have almost everything.  By the time I got there, I needed to set down and rest my knees.  They had a bar in the middle of the first floor; I shared a table with a couple from Finland while Carmen and her friends went shopping.  Here is where I found out about Rum & coke cola in a can.  I bought about half dozen for the end of our cruise.  We walked around with Mary Carmen and Marc, stopped and had a beer and enjoyed the day.  The stop at Santa Cruz was too short, but for me it was ok because my knees would only take the two to three hours we were ashore.  The prices here in Santa Cruz were a little lower than we later found in Spain.  If we had known, we would have brought more things.
