Welcome to Carmen & Carlos' Cruise on the Costa Mediterranea!

Costa Mediterranea January 12, 2008

Still have back pain from my fall, I had went to the pain doctor in the morning and we started south to Florida about noon.  I had received shots and treatment to my back, so I was feeling good.  We drove to Santee, SC, had a good dinner and check in to a motel.  The room had twin queen beds and it was the first time since I fell, I slept through the night.  Needless to say, I woke up feeling like a new person.

We got to Tallahassee on Chase's thirteen birthday.  It was nice to share his birthday with our son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter Emily.  We spent a couple of days in Tallahassee and had a very good time.  PeeWee and Peggy, Lenore's parents, joined us in Tallahassee.  Charles, Lenore, Chase, Emily, Peggy and PeeWee were going to a marathon races at Disney.  On Friday we all took off in two cars head to Orlando, Fl.  Charles' group were staying at Disney and Carmen and I were staying at the Comfort Suites Orlando.

We stopped at the Comfort Suites because it was on the way to Disney.  There was a TGI Fridays next to the Comfort Suites and we decided to have dinner there.  After dinner, Charles' group headed for Disney and we retired to our room at the Comfort Suites.  The room was exceptionally nice and if I was going to stay in Orlando again, I would surely stay there.

Tallahassee, Florida

We got up early and had a good breakfast at the Comfort Suites and headed south to Fort Lauderdale.  We arrived at the pier a little after noon.  I off loaded the bags and park within a block of the ship.  As usual, we went up to the 9th deck and had lunch.  The rooms were open a little after 1:00 PM and we went to the room for a nap, boy are were aging......

After cruising around the ship, we headed for dinner around 8:00 PM.  This was the bad part of the cruise, we did not have a waiter/waitress until the 4th or 5th night.  What we were assigned was a young lady whom we believe had never been a waiter/waitress.  Our orders were usually wrong and later than anyone else in the dining room.  This was by far the worst dining arrangements we have every had on any cruise, let alone, our last cruise we had the best waiter of all of our cruises.

Key West is very nice!

This cruise:

Fort Lauderdale

Key West, FL

At Sea

Gran Cayman

Roatan Honduras

Cozumel Mexico

At Sea

Fort Lauderdale

We had a very nice port call in Key West. If only one could live there during the beautiful weather.  If you have not been to Key West you are in for a treat.  First, the city provides free transportation from the Cruise ship to downtown and back to the Cruise ship. The shopping is very good and the food and drinks are fantastic.  I have been here a couple of times and each time the Cruise ship dock at the U. S. Navy base.  This people really have it made.....

We returned to the ship for a horrible time in the dinning room.  Last to be served and not with what you had order.  The dinning room really ruined this cruise.

The next day we anchor out next to the Cayman Island.  The Island is so flat you can see across it.  If there were a big wave, it appeared the island would go under water.  Next to the island it is very shallow so we had to take a tender (small boat) to the island and back to the ship.  The shopping is fair here, but the excursions are outstanding.  Go swimming with the Sea Rays........

From the Grand Cayman we sailed to Roatan Honduras and docked at their nice pier.  The best part of Roatan is their pier.  It has one main street with little shops on the land side of the road.  They have a couple of bars where you can get a cool bear, but I image, the best thing one could do here is go on an excursion.  There are numerous cab outside the gate that will take you all around this little island.

From Roatan we headed to Mexico's shopping center in the Caribbean, Cozumel.  We had first went to Cozumel in 1985 on the Vercruz, which was the first cruise ship to call on Cozumel.  The change from then to now is unbelievable, the quite little port was now a Mecca of  shopping stores.  One should at least visit Cozumel once, the drink and the food is very good there.  The shopping is top notch.

Cozumel Mexico

From Cozumel we had a nice day at sea and returned to Fort Lauderdale Saturday morning, January 17, 2008.  The only real bad thing on this cruise was our waiter or lack of waiter in the dining room.  The ship is beautiful and 99% of the workers were outstanding.
