Holland America Lines - Maasdam

Little San Salvador Island, Bahamas (also known as Half Moon Cay), is one of about 700 islands that make up the archipelago of the Bahamas. It is located roughly between Eleuthera and Cat Island. It is a private island, owned wholly by Holland America Lines. It is usually a one-day stop (port of call) on most Holland America Caribbean cruises.

Little San Salvador Island is about a hundred miles southeast of Nassau. Holland America purchased the island in 1997, and has developed only 45 acres of the 2,400 acre island, with the goal of maintaining as much habitat as possible for wildlife. The island is also a significant nesting area for waterfowl.

The island's coordinates are 24°33′N 75°59′W.

After a full day at sea, the next morning we found ourselfs at Half Moon Cay.  What a beautiful island.  We took a tender to the island and began exploring.  All we wanted to do was go swimming and lay on the beach.  The shipline had everthing there, chairs to set in the sand were free, but if you wanted an umbrella you had to reserve it and I'm sure, pay extra.

But this was a fantistic site, the beach and the water was outstanding.  We went into the water and enjoyed it.  But, you will get sun burned real fast here.  So after an hour or so, I started looking for some shade and food.  We found the food and set in the shade for an hour or so.  You really need to bring a hat and sun tan lotions, it was very, very good, if not the best part of the cruise...
