Beautiful Gibraltar

Chuck and Maia in Gibraltar

Chuck and Maia Petty had never been to Gibraltar and they really wanted to see it.  So the four of us, Chuck, Maia, Carmen and I walked off the Liberty and down to the control gate at the Port, about a block or two.  There we found a taxi cab and arranged a rate for Gibraltar and Malaga.  The driver would take us to the Control area at Gibraltar and wait for us there.  If he took us into Gibraltar, he would have to take the car thru custom which could take over an hour in both direction; we did not have all that time to be sitting in customs.  So, we started out from the Port of Malaga to Gibraltar, stopping within 10 minutes at a ATM machine to get some euros.  (of course, the card I used in Funchal the day before did not work. They processed that transaction a day later.)  But, I used another credit card and Chuck was successful with his first one.  Now we had euros, so off we went to Gibraltar.  We had got off the ship a little before 9:00 am and was walking in Gibraltar by 11:00 am. Cick here good web site for Gibraltar information and click here for a good review touring Gibraltar.   Our driver stop at the control parking lot and we got out and walked thru customs into Gibraltar.  We caught the Red Bus into town for .5 euros (I'm not really sure, but I think it was an euro for all day including my wife fare also.  As you can see, it was a double decker, open air bus and a very good way to get around.  When we got to the down town drop area, we got off and walked into town, a couple of blocks to Main street.  We stopped and had a coffee and some churros.  The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed the sun and fresh air.  We shopped for a couple of hours, stopping a couple of times for a beer or coffee while the ladies shopped.  We walked to the bottom of the hill and then back to top on Main Street, enjoying the shopping and sites...   We did not go to the top of the Rock, but had I did a little reading prior, we would have.  I had drove several times in the pass, so most of the place I knew how to get to in a car not using their local transportation and I did not know prior to talking with the Pettys, that we would be going this time to Gibraltar.  But, all in all, we had a good time seeing what the Pettys wanted to see.  We caught the Red Bus back to customs, walked thru and found our taxi and headed back to Malaga.  We were on restricted schedule; we had to be back on the ship by 4:30 PM.

We got back to Malaga a little before 4:00 PM, so the driver suggested we see a few things in Malaga also.  We drove around town stopping a couple a times at different locations.  We also went thru Picasso's home and museum.  We had a very good day, got lots of good pictures and was back on the Liberty by 5:00 PM.  A good review of Malaga can be found by clicking here.
